Developed by the University of Saskatchewan and released in 2010, the Festive Treat apple is a medium-sized variety known for its slightly tart, complex flavour and moderate growth habit.

Key Features:

  • Size: Medium.
  • Color: Red blush over a greenish-yellow background.
  • Shape: Round with a smooth finish.
  • Texture: Firm and moderately crisp.
  • Flavour: Slightly tart with a pleasant complexity.
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh, limited storage capacity.
  • Tree: Moderate vigor with a well-balanced growth habit.
  • Rootstock: Columbia Crab Apple.
  • Hardiness: The least hardy variety in the University of Saskatchewan apple collection.
  • Harvest: Ripens in mid-to-late September.
  • Uses: Excellent for fresh eating and cooking.

Growing Conditions:

  • Best suited for growers in milder prairie climates.
  • Requires a sheltered location due to lower cold hardiness.
  • May experience some tree loss in colder regions.
